Transnational health threats with US withdrawal from WHO?

The United States' declared the withdrawal (22nd January, 2026) from the WHO beholds global health security and enhances the chances of transnational health threats.  WHO plays a central role in disease surveillance, outbreak coordination, and emergency response-as evidence during Ebola, COVID-19 outbreak, and smallpox eradication efforts. The U.S. became one of the historical largest contributors to WHO, and cuts to funding undermine these early warning systems, laboratory networks, and vaccine programs so dearly needed in low- and middle-income countries.  Infectious diseases do not stop at borders, and weakening the multilateral governance of health heightens the likelihood of delayed detection, fragmented responses, and eventual higher global morbidity and mortality, which even high-income countries will be powerless to stop. Now,  World Health Day 2025 Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures ON THREAT!!!
